So.
I have lots and lots of little projects that I've been working on that will culminate into a big project. Does that make sense?
Instead of dragging it out one at a time I'll give you a few little ones at a time. Then, when I get
You'll be able to guess what room this is right off the bat, I'm sure. If not...well, I really hope there's none of you that don't get it because then I have to make fun of you for being stooopid. And that's not nice.
There's a really long and boring story about the why and wherefore (<---is that even a word?) we ended up having to replace the floor in the boys'/guest bathroom for the second time in as many years. (crap. i just told you the room, now, didn't i? oh well.)
But that's kinda where the story starts. While replacing the floor, I decided I needed to just do it up the way I wanted to in the beginning and just never did.
May as well break the legs on two birds with one rock, right? <--- that's Big Boy's way of completely mixing up 2 metaphors he heard. Cute, huh?
Now.
When we first moved into our house about 5 1/2 years ago, I thought the bathroom fixtures were awesome.
That's them. Well, part of them. The two ends that hold the towel bar.
All of the bathroom fixtures were two tone. Gold and silver. For some reason I thought they were classy. After 5 1/2 years of looking at them, I was sick of em.
I wanted new ones, but if you've priced bathroom fixtures lately, you know they can be notsocheap.
I had this brilliant idea. I was gonna spray paint em.
But.
You all know how much I love to spray paint. Notsomuch.
So I went to Home Depot and looked around in the paint section for a
And the heavens opened and the angels sang. And I fell in love.
I brought it home and stared at it for a couple days before I had the nerve to try it.
I sanded the stupid fixtures down and got all the old paint off of them from not taping them right last time we painted the bathroom.
Then I slapped some of that hammered metal stuff on em.
This is after one coat. See the difference between the old pimped out one and the "new" hammered metal one?? Love.
Guess what? I'm actually searching the house looking for stuff to paint with this stuff.
Here's something I found.
The cabinet that goes above the toilet.
I didn't want the entire thing done in metal, so I taped the middle off and painted the rest black.
Then I ripped the tape off and painted the middle medal. Ha. Middle medal...that sounds funny for some reason.
Finished product. Don't look too close. I had an unfortunate incident with wet spray paint.
Cursing Crafter Rating: They both qualify for SCC = Single Curse Craft. They were super easy. But right now I'm irritated I didn't stick a towel on that towel bar since I'm staring at it.
Ah well. I'll get there. One day I'll have the final review.
Next up? Framing the mirrors. I'll show you tomorrow.

Beautiful finish! It was the word "Hammered" that sold you, wasn't it?
I love the Hammered spray paint! I used it on my headboard and it worked awesome!
Hmmm.... Now I am going to take a gander at a few items in the house that could get "hammered"
Great idea Mimi!!
That looks great yo. Good job. When you coming over to do some shit around my house?
Possibly a craft easy enough for me?!
Good job, both look great.
good job!!! love it
I am so incredibly glad I found your blog... the peeps at work? Maybe not so much since I can't help but literally laugh at loud through most of your posts.
I feel ya on the Home Depot and I left apparently too soon since I didn't find the hammered paint....
I like the look of the cabinet... and I have some things that I think I would like better if they were uhmm well not gold or white...
I think you may just have hit on an excellent idea!! Thanks for the tip... but I bet I can make it at least a double curse craft since I am completely skill-less when it comes to stuff like this...
Merci,
Rebecca
Nice. I wish I could do stuff like that, but I would end up breaking stuff.
Very nice! I love Big Boy's new twist on birds/stones...I think I'll use it by the end of the day.
You amaze me! I have learned 2 things from your post today.
1) There is such a thing as hammered metal paint.
and
2) If you want to have a good time, give MiMi a can of spray paint, and stand back and watch.
Both of these tidbits make me smile!
I really love the bathroom fixtures now, you did a awesome job.
I never would have known you could change metal like that. This is the coolest!
I'm totally digging the paint! The cabinet looks cute!
Tess
Awesome job! I love changing things up with paint. It's cheap, and fairly easy to do. Oh yeah, and if you spray paint in an enclosed space you have the chance of getting high.
BONUS!
um, can you bottle up and sell some of your crafty genius self and send it to moi? because i'd be super grateful. and maybe you could help me fix the girls' headboards where they played w/ ink pens while mommy was blogging. mr. clean magic eraser helped some, but....argh!
Wow! I love it! I especially love that it is called "Hammered". I have an awful fear of spray paint too..and bathroom fixtures. My bathroom has wooden fixtures that I hate. I was actually drunk one night and "accidently" ripped the towel bar off of the wall. Yeah..I am not a big drinker anymore!
Very Cool! I would love for you to come to my house and get all crafty with my stuff. I always have big ideas but really suck with the follow through. I have a master bedroom in desperate need of your touch! ;-)
AWESOME!!! When you come down to Amish stalk with me..will you do stuff in my house too!? LOL!

LOVE that hammered metal!!! Any time you wanna come do stuff around here I'm totally game for it!! :)
Instant update!! Love it. Good job!
I like the way that looks...the cabinet really looks cool.
Now I want to get hammered...but not in the drinking way...in the my hubs wasnt home this weekend way. Or I guess I want to get nailed...yeah thats it
Cursing or not, you did an excellent job- better than I would do b/c I don't usually do home projects.
Very cool! I want to see the overall bathroom when you are done, I think it is going to look awesome
I think it looks beautiful! I have never really had much good luck with spray paint either. I almost passed out once spraying one of my college art projects!
i like it.
i like that hammered stuff. who knew that was out there? not i. i need to find more stuff to paint black and antique now. beating furniture is fun.
oh and i think you want a twitter. so you can write funny stuff and make me laugh. and that's not self centered of me at all.
RESET you say? *puts down screwdriver*
Wow - those towel holders look REALLY good! So does the medicine cabinet. Great job. Can't wait to see the finished room.
Hey mimi, those look great. We did something similar and spraypainted our hanging light in our kitchen and it looks so much better. Yours look truly awesome though.
Very nice! Though, I think having a paint called "Hammered" might give some folks, like, say, Lindsay Lohan (allegedly), the wrong idea.
Looks great! I love to shop my house and find things to repurpose! Good job CC!!
That hammered metal paint comes in spray form and it would be waaaaay easier.
Fabulous. That stuff looks so neat.
Hell, I would have not been able to start and would probably end up painting the dang wall.
The cabinet looks great! How are you able to do this stuff with the boys home? You sending the out to VBS? ;)
ooo! I'd start trying to paint my kids too I think. Haha! Amazing what you can do with a little paint!
i want that hammered metal stuff!!! do you think it would look good on door knobs?? i want to do my door knobs!
