Anyway, during the process of checking comments, I noticed a bazillion errors in the post and they drive me nuts! I changed most of em, but just now, I noticed that I spelled metal medal. Gah.
I saw this on a blog a long time ago.
And I wanted to do it ever since.
The problem is...I don't remember what blog it was on. I know it was before Christmas last year, so it's been a while, and I know I don't follow that blog.
And that is all I know. Literally.
Our bathrooms always had those plain builder mirrors.
Pay no attention to the fact that it needed a good workout with glass cleaner. I was waiting until all of this was done before I cleaned it:
before the new flooring went down.
flooring's down but we need to reattach the molding. note the two tone towel bar and the only decor i had in there. a picture frame that i put a bunch of prints of the kids in the bath in.
Alright, moving on.
All I needed to frame the mirror was to get some moulding and measure it to fit around the mirror like a picture frame.
I got some moulding that I thought would look nice and I brought it home. Then I called in the big guns.
Meet: My brother.
Okay, so that's just his back, but trust me, that's him. He came over with a fancy schmancy saw of some kind and his nail gun. He measured to fit, cut the 45 degree angles and put it together for me.
Right around this time I lost focus and...
Look!!
It's a helicopter!
standard joke with my brother: look! they found us; run!
Here it is before it's painted and hung. Ignore Little Boy's wheels. No. You can not borrow them.
at this point both my brother and i decided it would be cool to put a big frame on the wall and either a)leave it empty or b)put something cool lookin' in it. we don't know what that would be yet.
Back to the mirror. I didn't get any pictures of us painting the crap out of it so it would be black.
Man.
That moulding really sucks the paint up.
Here's the finished product.
Note the hotwheels soap dispenser. Hey. It's the boys' bathroom, I have to leave some boy stuff in there.
Now, of course I have to do the mirror in my bathroom too. I don't have a before picture, but here it is now.
Cursing Crafter Rating: TCC = Triple Curse Craft. I cussed, brother cussed...it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't too good either. Since I had to call in backups (ie; brother) it's gonna get an extra curse.
On both our parts.
Oh. And also? When you buy moulding and it says 98 cents? That's not for the entire 10 foot section your buying. That's per foot. Just so you know and don't make a stupid mistake like someone I know who shall remain nameless...

Looks awesome! I wish I could do that in the guest bath but the mirror goes all the way down to the tile. :( Can I borrow your brother? :)
I'm becoming a cursing crafter myself. I can't even find what I'm looking for. I've searched the depths of the internet for a silver sconce candle and can find nothing. Any ideas?
It looks good!!
What a difference, I it! Good job girl!
it looks fantastic! i loves it.
Beautiful job-both of you. :)
The helicopter! hahahaha.
Wow!That's gorgeous! I've GOT to get more crafty. My house is falling apart looking terrible around me... I need to at LEAST use touch up paint...
Great job!
Ooooo it's lovely! I like! Clearly craftyness (and hilariousness) runs in your family!
It looks fantastic! Everything with moulding is better! Well done.
btw- some of my comments aren't coming to email either. Yours on my last post was one of 'em...
(Yes. He was "Dear AssHat" but all is well now.)
I made a candle holder in Girl Scouts.
It was ugly and I cried.
I'm no longer allowed to do arts and crafts.
OOh, OOh, I know the answer! It was Shauna at Show & Tell! I've been wanting to do it as well! Looks GREAT!
That looks so good! I have those same builder mirrors and might have to try this. Good job! Oh and your brother did good too....but you can take all the praise!
That looks fantastic!!
They both look awesome!! Good job. And damn - that's quite a contraption your brother has. And I'm talking about the saw. Get your mind out of the gutter.
I just love you! I did the whole pricing faux pas thing once. Except it was like $2 a foot. That turned out to be a pretty pricey chair rail!
That looks so much better, though! I want to do something like that to my mirrors too, because how they currently are, looks so...blah.
Before I do though, I'll have to inherit a brother with a fancy saw, and a sister who is easily distracted by flying objects. Oh wait! I can be the sister!
It looks fantastic! I almost wish I had the basic builder mirror to do that too. Ha!
Great job! Nice to have a handy brother!
This looks fantastic. I need my husband to get one of those fancy saws and get to gettin'
It looks great! I think I need a new brother...
I am planning on doing the same thing in our bathrooms! Eventually, after craft room is done, some day, 3 days from forever..
You had me at helicopter :) Awesome job! You need to come to my house and help me out.
Looks great!! I love the helicopter joke! LOL
I love what you did with the mirrors! They look great!!
That just looks so fantastic!
I had to laugh because you kept distracting me by pointing out all these little things. It's how I live my daily life but it was weird to be directed that way while reading too! LOL
Very nice...so when are you coming to Tucson to do my bathroom??? LOL!
Very nice...so when are you coming to Tucson to do my bathroom??? LOL!
They look great. I love this idea. I'll never do it though since I'm SO not crafty.
That looks good.
You've been busy.
I'd like to do something like this but I'm askeered that I'll lose interest half way. Then I'll just have a mess.
How do you rope your brother into your projects? Mine recognize the look in my eyes and runrunrun.
The mirrors look amazing! Seriously, despite all the cussing, I think they are damn fine! Damn fine indeed!
The mirrors look great. I did something similar in my last house. I wanted to do that in this one, but the fucking mirrors are stuck to the wall, and we didn't feel like having to screw with redoing the drywall.
In other words, we are lazy.
Awesome MiMi! Question - how did you hang them? All my mirrors look like your 'befores' & I assumed with our re-do we'd replace the ones in our master - now I'm not so sure... Love the helicopter picture :)
Looks awesome lady! I wish I had some handy people in my family (hint John, if you ever read this!)
Kiran
I got dibbs on your brother after he is pimped out to all those that asked before me. Those look GREAT!!! Oh & I was totally thinking that same thing you asked V about Dear Asshat. How funny is that!
Job well done Mimi. I should do that with mine. How did you stick it to the mirror? Mine sticks out slightly from the wall so there would be a gap.
Great job! I love how that looks!!
ohhh it looks great!! its amazing how adding a frame can change the whole feel of the bathroom. love it!
I want one of those fancy schmancy saws... Coooooellll
Wow! Just - WOW. What a huge difference it makes! Great job.
Meems! I want those mirrors, please. All of mine are stupid and boringballs.
It looks fabulous!!
I love framed mirrors! If my bathrooms weren't 80% mirror, I'd totally do it. I'm too lazy to measure and go buy that much wood.
Wood.. HA.. Okay, something nasty just popped in my head! Eff, Ignore that. It's been awhile. See, once I get started I just can't stop. I'm such a blabber mouth! I'm done now. FU@K!
Love it! I want to do that to our yucky looking plain mirrors.
It looks great in both bathrooms! Really makes a difference.
